There is something so timeless about a springtime Rock Island Lake Club wedding. The soft breeze coming off the lake, the sunlight sparkling across the water, and the quiet excitement that fills the bridal suite before the day truly begins. It all feels like something out of a movie. Carley and Stephen’s Rock Island Lake Club Wedding in the middle of May was exactly that kind of day. Romantic, joyful, emotional, and overflowing with love from beginning to end.

From the moment I walked into the bridal suite, the atmosphere felt calm and happy in the sweetest way. Soft music filled the room while everyone got ready for Carley’s big day. The bridesmaids were all smiles, laughing together while dressed in matching satin pajamas with delicate green leaf details. Stephen’s three sisters wore blue pajamas as Carley’s “something blue,” and honestly, it could not have been sweeter.

We spent the morning documenting candid moments of the girls cheering, hugging, laughing, and being completely themselves. Carley’s two sisters especially kept everyone smiling all morning long. Their energy was contagious, and it made the entire room feel lighthearted and full of love.

A Relaxed and Sweet Wedding Morning at Rock Island Lake Club

Downstairs in the groom’s suite, the atmosphere was just as fun. The groomsmen slowly strolled in while getting dressed and joking around together. Stephen gifted all of the guys matching socks for the wedding day, and of course they had to show them off with a fun photo around the fire pit. All the guys held their feet up proudly while laughing together, and it made for such a fun and special moment.

The boys toasted the groom, shared drinks, and soaked in every second before the ceremony began. One of my favorite things about wedding mornings is seeing the excitement build little by little throughout the day, and you could absolutely feel that here.

The Funniest Fake First Look Surprise

Before the real first look, the groomsmen planned the funniest surprise for Stephen.

He stood outside waiting patiently, fully believing he was about to see his beautiful bride for the very first time. What he did not know was that one of his groomsmen had secretly changed into a wedding dress instead.

When Stephen turned around, it took him a second to process what he was seeing. The confusion on his face quickly turned into uncontrollable laughter. He bent over laughing so hard he could barely stand while everyone around him cheered and celebrated the successful prank.

And then, to make the moment even better, his friend pulled out a Smirnoff Ice and iced him!

It was one of those wedding moments nobody will ever forget.

A Romantic First Look by the Waterfall

After all the laughter, it was finally time for the real first look, and it was so beautiful.

The second Stephen turned around and saw Carley, his entire face lit up. His smile grew instantly, and he immediately wrapped her in the biggest hug. Tears filled his eyes almost right away. Stephen fully embraced being emotional throughout the day, and honestly, it was one of the most romantic things ever.

There is something so special about a groom who is completely unafraid to show how deeply he loves his person.

We spent the next part of the afternoon exploring the grounds of Rock Island Lake Club for portraits, and every single corner of the venue photographed beautifully. The weather could not have been more perfect. Sunny skies mixed with soft clouds gave us dreamy light everywhere we went.

The bridal party complemented everything perfectly. The groomsmen all wore classic black tuxes while the bridesmaids wore mismatched green dresses in varying shades, fabrics, cuts, and textures. Even though every dress was unique, everything tied together so beautifully. Their white floral bouquets added such a timeless and elegant touch.

Private Vows by the Waterfall

One of the sweetest moments of the day happened when Carley and Stephen exchanged private vows together near the waterfall.

Stephen cried the entire way through his vows, which is exactly why they jokingly decided he should go second. The two of them already knew he would struggle to get through his words without tearing up, and honestly, that made the moment even more meaningful.

It was emotional, intimate, and full of genuine love.

A Stunning Outdoor Ceremony Overlooking the Lake

As guests took their seats overlooking the lake, everyone waited excitedly for the ceremony to begin.

Then came the moment Stephen saw Carley walking down the aisle.

And yes—he cried again.

As soon as she reached the altar, the sun suddenly broke through the clouds and illuminated the entire ceremony space. It genuinely felt as though heaven itself had opened up over them while they exchanged vows and rings surrounded by family and friends.

After officially becoming husband and wife, the two shared their first kiss before joyfully walking back down the aisle through a romantic rose petal exit.

It was the perfect ending to such a heartfelt ceremony.

Cocktail Hour Details That Felt Personal and Creative

Cocktail hour at Rock Island Lake Club is always incredible, and this wedding was no exception.

Elegant tables were filled with an amazing variety of delicious food while guests mingled and celebrated the newlyweds. Carley and Stephen added so many thoughtful personal touches throughout the space, including a hand-painted mirror seating chart and matching mirror welcome sign they created themselves.

One of my favorite details was their signature drink sign featuring illustrations of their two cats paired with their favorite cocktails. It was absolutely purr-fect and such a fun way to incorporate their personalities into the wedding day.

A High-Energy Reception Full of Dancing and Celebration

When it came time for introductions, the energy in the room completely exploded.

The bridal party danced their way into the reception before Carley and Stephen ran in hand-in-hand with huge smiles on their faces. They immediately began twirling and dancing together before transitioning into an upbeat choreographed first dance filled with so much joy and energy.

After a dramatic dip and kiss, the celebration rolled straight into the hora as guests crowded the dance floor surrounding the newlyweds with nonstop excitement and love.

The rest of the evening was just as unforgettable.

Guests danced all night long to 90s music, shared drinks, celebrated with espresso martinis, and completely filled the dance floor from beginning to end. Of course, we had to sneak away for a few fun photos at the espresso martini stand too.
