Ashley & Cosimo’s Romantic August Wedding at Rock Island Lake Club in Sparta, NJ

Ashley and Cosimo’s Rock Island romantic wedding was everything a summer celebration should be. Heartfelt, creative, emotional, and undeniably beautiful. Set on a sunny August day at Rock Island Lake Club in Sparta, NJ, their wedding felt like stepping straight into a love story.

Not only is Rock Island one of my favorite venues, but it’s also filled with incredible staff and stunning views. So, every time I return, it truly feels like a joy.

Thoughtfully Designed Details and a Creative Beginning

First and foremost, Ashley designed her entire invitation suite herself. And honestly? It was stunning. The sage green palette paired with soft white florals felt romantic, elevated, and timeless.

In addition, her detail photos were such a dream to photograph. Her shoes featured delicate white florals on the toe strap, which tied in beautifully with the lush floral theme throughout the day. Moreover, those same romantic florals perfectly complemented her dress.

Ashley wore a lace A-line gown with flowing chiffon, dimensional floral appliqués, and subtle sparkle throughout. Undoubtedly, it felt straight out of a fairytale.

A Shaded First Look Filled With Emotion

Once everyone was dressed and ready, it was time for the first look. Because it was a hot summer day, we headed outside and stayed tucked into the shade. Especially important so no one melted.

Ashley walked down the stone steps like a storybook character. Immediately, Cosimo was overcome with emotion. He couldn’t help but cry as he saw her for the first time.

Afterward, they shared private vows they had written for one another. Not only did this bring more happy tears, but it also created such an intimate moment just for them. This is one of the reasons a Rock Island romantic wedding feels so deeply personal.

Fairytale Portraits Around the Venue

Following their first look, we explored the venue for portraits. One of my absolute favorite moments was photographing them on the tree swing, surrounded by the forest. It felt whimsical, peaceful, and undeniably romantic.

Equally memorable was the moment Ashley ran toward Cosimo, smiling back at the camera as her dress billowed in the wind. Then, she jumped into his arms, and he spun her around before kissing her. Without a doubt, it felt like a scene pulled straight from a romantic novel.

And fittingly, Ashley is a writer. In fact, she’s currently publishing her first romantic fantasy book. How cool is that?!

Bookish Details and a Beloved Pup

Because of her love for storytelling, Ashley incorporated literary details throughout the day. There were stacks of books by the sweetheart table. In addition, the seating chart was styled as a bookshelf. Impressively, she created all of it herself.

Then it was time for bridal party and family photos. Importantly, this included their dog, Grizzly. This sweet, large mixed-breed pup completely stole the show.

Ashley and Cosimo were overjoyed to include their adopted baby on their big day. Grizzly was such a good boy for the camera, and everyone was smiling. Above all, I love when couples include their dogs in their weddings.

A Lakeside Ceremony With Unexpected Joy

Finally, it was time for the ceremony. White florals lined the chairs and framed the arch overlooking the lake. The setting was peaceful, elegant, and full of light. Then came one of the funniest moments of the day. Instead of a traditional flower girl, their grown friend, the “flower man” walked down the aisle tossing petals. Naturally, guests burst into laughter.

Following that, Ashley and Cosimo exchanged scripture and vows in front of their family and friends. After their first kiss, they were officially married and absolutely glowing.

An Unmatched Cocktail Hour and a Show-Stopping Reception

Cocktail hour at Rock Island Lake Club never disappoints. In fact, it’s one of the highlights of a Rock Island romantic wedding. Guests enjoyed the famous charcuterie boat, a Mexican station, a pasta bar, and classic American favorites, including burgers, onion rings, and milkshakes.

Afterward, Ashley and Cosimo danced their way into the ballroom alongside their bridal party. Then came their choreographed first dance. It was fun, energetic, and unforgettable. Cosimo lifted Ashley, spun her around, and finished with a dramatic dip kiss. The room erupted in cheers.

Speeches followed from the maid of honor and best man. They were heartfelt, genuine, and full of love. Then, the dance floor opened and it stayed packed all night!

Sunset Photos to End a Perfect Day

Because summer days stretch long into the evening, we slipped out during the reception for sunset photos on the dock. The light was soft, the lake was calm, and the moment felt incredibly intimate. Watching the sun set as Ashley and Cosimo held one another was such a peaceful and romantic way to end their wedding day.
