My Wedding Day at SkyView Golf Club | A Dreamy DIY Fall Celebration
SkyView Romantic Fall Wedding: Our Story
Getting married to the love of my life, John, on October 20, 2022, at SkyView Golf Club was everything I ever dreamed of. We had been together since June of 2011, and after over a decade of memories, laughter, and love, we finally tied the knot in the most beautiful SkyView romantic fall wedding.
The Surprise Florida Engagement
Our journey to the altar began with a magical moment in Florida. We were on vacation, soaking up the sunshine, when John totally surprised me with a proposal. I was over the moon and so happy. It was one of those moments where everything feels right in the world. We were excited to start planning, but honestly, we had no idea where to begin!
Finding the Perfect Venue
We started our search for the perfect venue and quickly scheduled a tour of SkyView Golf Club. The second we arrived, we knew it was the one. We didn’t even look anywhere else. The ceremony view was breathtaking. Especially imagining how it would look with all the fall foliage. We loved that everything was in one location: ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. We didn’t want to be rushing around or losing time traveling between spots. SkyView was a one-stop dream come true.
Choosing the Right Photographer
One question I get all the time is, “So who shot YOUR wedding?” The answer was easy for me: my dear friend and fellow wedding photographer, Tina Elizabeth. We’d worked together countless times, and I’d learned so much from her over the years. I trusted her completely, and it meant so much to have her there capturing our day.
All the DIY Magic
Wedding Style + Colors
My wedding style was romantic and elegant with a soft autumn touch. My colors were burnt orange and champagne/gold. Perfect for a fall celebration.
Florals
I DIY’d all of our florals using Lings Moment. It was the only way I could get the exact colors and style I envisioned. I had full creative control, and I loved it! The bouquets and the floral arch for our ceremony, which we later repurposed at our sweetheart table were made by me. I even had enough florals to decorate our centerpieces. I ordered the matching boutonnieres but swapped John’s main flower to a white one for contrast.
Centerpieces
I hunted through thrift shops for tall candle sticks to hold 3×4 candles. They were then painted gold to match our theme. I wanted tons of candles throughout the reception space for a romantic, glowing look.
Table Numbers + Seating Chart
I made the table numbers using glass gold frames and used my Cricut to cut vinyl lettering. For our seating chart, I thrifted a large mirror, printed table lists on thick cardstock, and added them to the mirror with a gold wax seal stamped with a “C” for our last name. At the top, I added the words “Our Favorite People” in Cricut lettering.
Invitations
I’m most proud of our wedding invitations. I found a style I liked on Etsy, edited the template, and printed everything on super thick cardstock. I then glued them to burnt orange metallic 8×10 paper for a luxe look. On the back of the info cards, I added a custom bust illustration of our dogs in their wedding outfits, Rocky and Maya. It was such a personal and fun touch!
The Big Day Arrives
The weather was cool and windy—but sunny! That was all I cared about. John and I felt perfectly cozy in our wedding outfits. We had our first look under the willow tree and even got to take photos at the famous Hole 4 lookout. With the fall foliage and sunlight, it was absolutely stunning. We tossed rose petals with our bridal party and had the time of our lives.
Our Dogs Came, Too!
We hired Wedding Puptials to bring our dogs to the wedding, and they were amazing. Rocky wore a little collar tux and Maya had a sweet floral collar. Seeing them made me so happy! They walked down the aisle and took photos with us. It was everything I dreamed of.
Ceremony & Cocktail Hour
I walked down the aisle to the theme from the romance anime Your Name. It still makes me cry—it was perfect. We said our vows at golden hour with the beautiful SkyView view behind us.
Cocktail hour was a feast! We chose:
From the Fiery Chafing Dishes:
- Grilled Jerk Style Chicken with Lime and Plantains
- Seafood Fra Diavolo
- Baked Meatball Parmesan
Live Stations:
- Mexican Tacos
- Mediterranean
Carving Station:
- Chili Lime Marinated Flank Steak with Roasted Tomato & Cilantro
Appetizer:
- Tri-color salad
Entrée:
- Grilled Chicken Breast with Roasted Red Peppers, Capicola, and Mozzarella Cheese in Garlic Herb Alfredo Sauce
And everyone raved about the food!
Signature Drinks & Reception Vibes
Of course, I made the signature drink sign myself, complete with our dogs’ pictures. We named them The Ruff Rocky and The Long Island Maya, because why not?!
We kicked off the reception with EDM intros for the groomsmen and bridesmaids, then made our own entrance to “Levels” by Avicii. The energy was unreal!
Our first dance was to “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young. We had sparklers and danced on the clouds—pure magic. Our DJ, ERE, kept the dance floor packed all night. It was a nonstop party.
Extra Touches
After dinner, we had a cigar roller hand-rolling cigars for guests to enjoy and take home. I even ordered custom matchboxes. We cut our cake privately and shared a sweet moment with John putting frosting on my nose, of course. Our cake had little dog figures on top that I hand-painted to look like Rocky and Maya. More DIY!
An Unforgettable Ending
The end of the night had one unexpected twist. We hired a van service to take guests to the hotel 20 minutes away. As we pulled out, the van John and I were in started screaming. My dad (a mechanic) turned to John and said, “This thing’s gonna blow.” Sure enough, on Route 80, the engine exploded! Black smoke billowed out, and we pulled over. Luckily, another van was nearby, and the company got us a new one fast. Everyone made it to the hotel safely, but it was definitely a wild ride.
Our Forever
All in all, our wedding day was everything we hoped for and more. Planning was fun, magical, and full of personal touches. We’re so happy to finally be married and so grateful for every moment of our perfect SkyView romantic fall wedding.
